Our History
Arcadia Elementary School closed its doors at the end of the 2002-2003 school year. Our community then became a part of the Onekama Consolidated School District. The elementary school that once housed our children sat idle until 2006 when an Arcadian, Ricky Williams purchased the building and started the Pleasant Valley Community Center.
Community members worked with tremendous dedication to establish the facility as the Pleasant Valley Community Center. Our hard work has paid off. The Center was incorporated in August of 2006 and received a non-profit status in October 2006. PVCC has been a vibrant center of activities as diverse as exercise, car racing, festivals, movie nights, ping pong, pancake breakfasts, special dinners, private rentals and more. Volunteers have contributed thousands of hours of dedicated labor to prepare the building. In addition, we have received generous donations of equipment and materials that were needed to effectively operate the center. Community members continue to volunteer with all aspects of maintaining the facility. Thanks to the generous support of these volunteers, we are now able to offer a regular schedule of programs tailored to the needs of the local community. Our Strategic Vision
By 2013, our vision is that the Pleasant Valley Community Center will be a bustling location with a diverse range of people using the building and arriving by bike, foot, bus or car. Programs and recreational opportunities will include guided and unguided activities. We will draw volunteers from a wide geographic location and from a range of backgrounds including seasonal residents.
Our grounds and facilities will be aesthetically pleasing and inviting with good lighting and equipment. We will be successful at fundraising with a volunteer team of fundraisers who will work aggressively on our behalf. We will have started an endowment and will be preparing to hire our first executive director.
